Dump Truck Training Courses Compliancy
This training programme is accredited with the Construction Education Training Authority (CETA) in accordance with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) unit standard 262731: Operate a Rigid Body Dump Truck.
All learners at at our dump truck training school receive accredited certificates provided that the entry requirements have been met, and the learner is found competent to operate a rigid body dump truck, the candidate will receive a certificate of competence that is valid life-long, except where it is the policy of the company to have the operator refreshed every two years.
In addition to being competent to operate a rigid body dump truck, candidate operators who have undertaken the necessary notional hours, and provided enrolment procedures have been adhered to, will receive 10 credits towards the national certificate in construction plant operations, as well as a statement of results.

The Tasks and duties of the dump truck driver may include and not limited to the following
- Driving trucks to the destination site.
- Pulling levers or turning cranks to tilt the body and dump the truck’s contents.
- Inspecting the truck from tyres, lights and brakes to fuel, oil and water.
- Performing pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Keeping the truck clean and in good working order.
- Inspecting material to ensure it has been loaded correctly and securely.
- Reviewing shipping documents to verify data is accurate.
- Maintaining a driver log.
Dump Truck Drivers can sometimes be expected to work away from home for a period of time if a job is out of town. There may also be a requirement for you to live within what’s called a ‘fatigue zone’, meaning you do not need to drive more than 60 minutes to get to or from home.

Dump truck safety precautions
We take learners through general safety precautions regarding the operation of the rigid dump truck, maintenance, protection of the machine, handling of its various dangerous components, and working in hazardous environments, such as on looser ground or on inclines.
Daily checks and servicing
We do walk-around checks and daily service, weekly or 50 hour service, start-up checks, shutdown procedures, refuelling the dump truck and daily checklist for dump trucks.
Controls, levers, pedals and instruments on rigid dump trucks
We show learners the controls, gauges, warning lights and warning pictorials.
Operating and transporting the dump truck
We discuss operating techniques and precautions, starting the engine, moving off with the machine, shifting gears, steering, working on inclines, at edges of dumps or on stockpiles, falling over the edge of a dump, dumping a load, parking, checks after shutdown, cleaning and transporting the machine.
